Do you get Rank in the Arena's? And if so how? I have been levelling up my characters via the arenas before going item/armor collecting and doing all the missions before the next arena, and I have to say iv seen nothing of rank so far.
Is Rank a simple ratio of kills and losses? I would really love to know how its works.

Rank is given when earning "fame" from the Tombs, an organized team PvP area you'll get to after ascention.
About running, that's a very complicated matter. Sometimes it's good to run, sometimes it's not. It really depends on the situation and what's happening in your surroundings, and what your team is doing. It takes good team coordination to know exactly when and when not to run. You can't simply say one is better than the other. Usually, when we play, a focused player on the team gives word over vent that he's getting focus. He'll usually step back a few (don't turn your back to wars, as it results in auto-crits), and as soon as he's got the "ok" from the monks, he's clear to stand still and resume casting and etc. , depending on what protection we have on him/her.
It's very hard to point out a player's skill in a random PUG, as skill has a lot to do with being able to coordinate with your team. PUG's have little to no coordination, however I do agree that you can't judge people by their rank.

Yes I know what the Tombs are, I was asking if you could give me details on the mechanics behind Rank and Fame.

Wait, is that even right? I'm pretty sure you take the same damage moving as you do standing still, just that the positioning makes it so the armorpiece hit-chances are different

If you walk backwards, you probably take the same damage, maybe a bit more on legs, but if you get hit from behind by a warrior, which happens while you run, it auto criticals. Final Thrust anyone?

And how exactly can a crippled warrior hit from behind if he can't keep up with his target? Hell, if you want to get the extra credit for being careful, move backwards 5 steps untill you're out of the Warrior's range and then turn and run.
But even one crit is not equivalent to sitting in one place and getting beaten to death.

I happen to think that ranks mean something:
1. they're pretty good
2. they just play a lot.
While you can play a lot and get rank 3, you can't play a lot and get rank 6 if you suck. At least not in the next month or so.
Here's how ranks work:
The first win gives you 1 fame point. The next consecutive win gives you 2. Then:
3
4
6
8
12
16
20
24
28
32
36
40
and it's capped at 40.
Rank 1 is 25
2 = 75
3 = 180
4 = 360
5 = 600
6 = 1000
7 = 1700 (somewhere around there, wasn't paying attention)
8 = 2800
9 = ??? haven't reached it yet...4100+ and counting...
10
11
12
13
14
15 = rumor has it that it's 500,000 to 800,000
at rank 3 you get a deer emote when you type /fame
at rank 6 you get a wolf emote
at rank 9...i'll let you know soon hopefully...
if you win HoH you get two prizes: a sigil and a max-tweaked gold rare item. It's actually not that hard to win HoH with the level of competition atm. So please, come play!

Where is the HoH exactly? Is it the arena is Draknors Forge? I just ascended and I've been waiting for it, but haven't had much time to go beyond there.

HoH is in the Tombs.
Go to the Tombs and win enough matches in a row ... you'll end up in a showdown with an opposing team for control of the Hall of Hero's.
You can get to the Tombs through The Dragon's Lair mission staging area. Just head north and you'll eventually zone into the Tombs.
Once you've zoned into the Tombs once it will appear on your main map.
As strange as it may seem to some, there ARE players out there that don't realize the Tombs is located by The Dragon's Lair.
I actually found out myself when my team zoned into the Tombs staging area and I realized the Tombs were adjacent to Dragon's Lair.
If they had not have done that I probaly would have never known short of asking my guild or checking an outside forum.

Yeah I knew about HoH and the Tombs. I kinda still consider them the same thing since the only time I've encountered it before was in beta.
But yeah, thanks, had no clue it was attached to the dragons lair.

Death From Above
|
Running does lead to your enemies causing more damage. And even if they're snared that doesn't mean they can't snare you as well (or use a speed buff to cancel out the snare effect). So turning tail and running leads to pain. But not as much pain as simply standing there and absorbing punishment. You don't want to run when you're close to death because the spike to damage will generally be enough to put you down but if you're running when you're out of the danger zone you'll be able to survive and then keeping out of harm's reach will lead to damage dropping off swiftly.
Either way, running into melee range with caster armor is not the best of moves in any event.
As for Fame and the ranks it leads to, it's really not an accurate indicator of skill. For one, competition in the Tombs and PvP in general is, at the moment, at an abysmally low level. Scrubs beating up other scrubs doesn't make one a PvP god. For the other, it's a cumulative statistic. You'll never lose fame, you can only add to it. That person could reach rank 3 through one epic Hall hold (which isn't that good a measure anyway, holding the hall isn't easy but it takes a team and things aren't fierce enough yet that a good team can't float a weak link and still do well. So it could be just pure dump luck and finding a good team that leads you to holding the Hall for hours on end) just as easily as they could have gained it by winning the first round in Tombs and getting bounced the next 120 times. It's less a measure of success than it is experience. And not that much of one, at that. After all, I've yet to earn a drop of fame myself but I think you'd find it difficult to call a long-time player and former alpha tester such as myself inexperienced when it comes to PvP.
So, don't trust rank. Trust results. That unranked player might be a better teammate and a better player than that rank 3 braggart. The only way to tell, though, is to play a few rounds with them and see what happens.
